Bettina
T. Guevera
Bettina Teresa Guevara was born in Lima, Peru and moved to the United
States with her family at the age of eleven. Ms. Guevara attended
George Mason University, in Fairfax, Virginia, where she earned
her Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs. Bettina was also
a goal keeper in the Division I Women's Lacrosse team, received
a number of conference awards and became an All-American Lacrosse
player her senior year.
Bettina obtained her Juris Doctor from University of Maryland School
of Law in Baltimore, Maryland. During law school, Ms. Guevara became
the President of the Latino Law Students Association and the National
President of the Law Student Division of the Hispanic National Bar
Association. As the National President of the Law Student Division,
Bettina traveled across the country and visited with Hispanic law
students to discuss issues facing Hispanics in the legal profession
today. Ms. Guevara was also a recipient of the University of Maryland
School of Law's Public Service Award and member of the Phi Delta
Phi International Honors Fraternity.
After she graduated from law school, Ms. Guevara began her career
as an associate at Miles & Stockbridge P.C, a firm comprised
of over 200 lawyers with offices in Maryland and Virginia. Bettina
has been with the firm ever since and practices in the areas of
real estate and business law, where she represents financial institutions
and other lenders, as well as real estate developers, in the areas
of commercial and real estate finance. She also represents corporations
and other business entities in their acquisition and financing of
real estate projects and general business matters.
Ms. Guevara is the recipient of an Award for Volunteer Services
from the National Kidney Foundation for pro-bono work and is extensively
involved in the community and many local and national organizations.
In 2005, Bettina became a member of the Board of Directors of the
Maryland Hispanic Bar Association and was one of the youngest persons
elected President-Elect by the Maryland Hispanic Bar in 2006. As
the President-Elect, Ms. Guevara spearheaded the launching of the
first ever Maryland Hispanic Bar Mentorship Program earlier this
year. In addition, Bettina currently sits on the Board of the Hispanic
National Bar as the affiliate representative for the Maryland Hispanic
Bar and is a Director of the Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Bettina is the oldest daughter of Teresa and Luis and has three
siblings, Fiorella, a teacher, Luis, an accountant and Josue, a
bright fifth grader.
