Welcome to our Chamber

It is a pleasure to introduce our new monthly publication with current news and guidelines for the business community in Maryland. Our first article, written by Mr. Anthony Ruiz, talks about a range of unsecured financing sources available for your business. Every month we will bring you interesting articles written by Chamber members to help you to propel your business to the next level. It’s like having a team of professionals consulting to you business.

What would it mean to you to know of three different financing sources that provide unsecured financing from $5,000 to $50,000?

Let me introduce you to these sources below, along with their different strengths and limitations. In addition, in future features in our Chamber’s newsletter, I will have the pleasure of introducing you to various other creative financing sources and techniques. My career experience of 10 years in international and commercial banking, 10 years in turnaround management and 15 years in business management consulting has enabled me to seek out and utilize these financing products for my clients. Rick Martinez receives Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Award

Ricardo Martinez Our Chairman Rick Martinez was recognized as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise Award winners for 2007.  The awards ceremony was held october 8th at the University of Maryland Inn and Conference Center auditorium, packed with an appreciative sold out audience.

The annual Top 100 MBE awards program honors outstanding women and minority business owners doing business in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. The 2007 program was co-hosted by the University of Maryland University College, in conjunction with the Maryland Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs, and the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.

Rick was chosen from a select group of talented entrepreneurs for his outstanding achievements in business development, client satisfaction, professional affiliations, and community involvement. The judging panel evaluated over 1,200 nominations to arrive at the Top 100 awardees.

Rick Martinez speaks at the Small Business Committee Field Hearing

 

Our Chairman Rick Martinez recently spoke at the Small Business Committee Field Hearing presided by Sen. Ben Cardin on October 29th at Bowie State University. Rick talked about Federal Contratcting and focused on the requirements and how to be equipped to compete in the federal marketplace.

Testimonies given by Rick, as well as Carmen Ortiz Larsen, CEO of Aquas Inc. and past president of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Montgomery County MD are available for download.

The Maryland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce joined with the Baltimore Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Montgomery County to conduct one of the most successful Hispanic Business Conferences in Maryland history. Close to 700 businesses (Hispanic and non Hispanic) participated in the event held October 24, 2007 in Baltimore, MD. As the keynote speaker, Governor Martin O’Malley, praised the contributions of Hispanics and Hispanic businesses in Maryland and the nation. Several awards were given to notable Hispanics who have achieved extraordinary business success. We, in the MDHCC are proud to note that three of our very own were heralded as leaders in the Hispanic Business community. These were:

Anthony was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs. He is the MDHCC Vice Chairman of the Board

Susanna was named a Latina Powerhouse of the Year. She serves as Director on the MDHCC Board

Theresa was named a Latina Powerhouse of the Year. She serves as Director on the MDHCC Board
