Welcome to our Chamber,
This time we have a great article from Joe Morales entitled “Have I Structured My Business Correctly?”. Joe leads our Legal Committee. This is a very important topic for those of you who are either starting a business or experiencing rapid changes in your existing business. This article is the first of a series of articles relating to the different types of legal entities that can be used when running a business.
As small business is the engine for growth in the US economy, so is it that Hispanic-owned women business is the engine of Hispanic business overall. In the MDHCC, we are extremely proud to have on our Board several very powerful women who are among the top entrepreneurs in our State. The second article provided by Dr. Susanna Nemes explains in detail the goals and objectives of our “Women Entrepreneur Committee”. As the leader, Dr. Nemes is recruiting members to serve on this dynamic committee. For more information please contact her at snemes@socialsolutions.biz.
We would like to mention also the new structure of our Committees and who is leading them. Please feel free to contact them if you would like to join.

This is the first in a series of articles relating to the different business entities that can be used when running a business. All entities have different purposes, advantages, and disadvantages. Selecting the right legal entity for your business is important because the type of entity chosen dictates an owner’s degree of exposure to liability, and tax responsibilities, among other implications to the owners of the company. The types of legal entities available in Maryland include sole proprietorship, partnerships, limited liability partnerships, limited liability companies, S corporations and C Corporations. In this installment, we discuss the sole proprietorship and simple partnership forms of business.
