Welcome to our Chamber

Our article for this month came from Joe Morales entitled “Have I Structured My Business Correctly? Part II”.  Joe leads our Legal Committee. This is a very important topic for those of you who are either starting a business or experiencing rapid changes in your existing business.

Just as small business is the engine for growth in the US economy, so it is that Hispanic-owned women businesses are the engine of Hispanic business growth in the country. In the MDHCC, we are extremely proud to present our “2008 Women Entrepreneur Lunch Series”. For this event we are partnering with the Greater Baltimore Committee to put together the brightest and most successful women business owners in the region to provide one-on-one coaching and advice for entrepreneurs. This event will take place on May 16th at 11:00am at the GBC offices. For more information about the speakers and dates or If you would like to sponsor this event please contact us at customerservices@mdhcc.org or call us at 240-686-0450.

Have I structured my business correctly? Part II

Joe Morales By Joseph L. Morales and Maria de L. Mojica .

This is the second installment of a three-part series on business organizations

Previously we discussed the sole proprietorship and the basic partnership.  The sole proprietor and the partners of these organizations have total control and participate actively in the business.  They also share all liability with respect to the company.  In terms of taxation, the taxes are passed through to the sole proprietor or partners.  In this installment, we discuss two other types of organizations that give some measure of protection against liability to those investing in the business.

Past Events

Hispanic Legislative Reception

The Legislative Reception held on February 7th at the Senate Building in Annapolis was an extraordinary success. With approximately 85 people in attendance, including important delegates and members of the state government, we discussed the issues important to our community. Of course we couldn’t have done it without the collaboration of our sister organizations: The Baltimore City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Montgomery County and the Hispanic Business Association. United, we can represent our members' interests more effectively by providing a louder voice for our concerns.
